Commission Terms

I love making portraits—it's one of my favourite things to do! If you're interested, I'd be more than happy to create one for you. Before you order a commission, its important that you understand all of the terms and conditions, and the steps involved in the process.

The Process; from your photo to a beautiful, one of a kind painting.

Commission Terms and Conditions

  1. The completion time for your portrait is typically 2 to 6 weeks, this wait time is dependant on the volume of active commissions, and the dry time of the oil paint layers. If you need the commission by a specific date, contact me through the commission form, or directly via email, before ordering, to ensure that you will be able to receive the artwork in time.

  2. Archival quality and lightfast materials are used for every original painting, therefore I can ensure that cracking, or fading colours will not be an issue encountered. You will receive a genuine, high quality oil painting that will stand the test of time for years to come. All paintings include an authenticated and signed certificate of authenticity.

  3. I ship worldwide, but please keep in mind that depending on your location and local laws, your government may charge additional customs fees on top of my fee. Please consider this when placing your order. Melina Maree Art is not responsible for additional customs fees that are charged through foreign government taxation.

  4. Before commencing your commission, I will send you a digital composite image/colour mock-up, this is to ensure you are happy with the composition and framing of the artwork, and are happy with the background colours. You may request any framing and background colour changes until you are happy with the mock-up.

  5. To begin working on your portrait, I kindly request a deposit of 20% of the total value. You'll only need to pay the remaining amount once the work is finished, and I've sent you pictures for your approval. The painting will not be shipped until full payment is made. Unlike many artists who require full payment upfront, I want to ensure your satisfaction with my work before you make the final payment.

  6. I offer a money-back guarantee all the way up until you approve the mock-up. Please bear in mind that I am only able to return a deposit (or the full cost, if you have chosen upfront payment) BEFORE the canvas is ordered and painting commences. The canvas will be ordered and painting may commence immediately after mock-up approval in some cases, so please take care if you think your situation is likely to change.

  7. If your situation has changed and you would no longer like to have your commission painting completed, and the painting has been started following your approval of the mock-up, you will forfeit the cost of the 20% deposit, to cover material costs.
If you change your mind and wish to cancel the commission when the painting has already been significantly progressed, you may remain invoiceable for up to 80% of full cost, depending on how much of the painting has been completed at the time of cancellation.

  8. I can also accept payments in instalments. If you prefer to pay in this way, please get in touch with me, and we can discuss the payment plan that suits you.

  9. In the unlikely event that the painting is damaged during transit, please take photographs of the package before unpacking, during unpacking, and after unpacking. Immediately email these pictures to me at melina@melinamareeart.com. The damaged painting will need to be returned to me at the client's expense. Once I receive the artwork, I will create a new painting at no additional cost to you. However, please note that the lead time will restart, and it will take another 2 to 6 weeks. I want to assure you that I take great care in packing my work to prevent any damage during transit.

  10. I retain all copyrights for my artwork, including the rights to use pictures of commissioned work on my social networks and other marketing channels. However, if you prefer that I don't post pictures of your painting, whether it's because it's a gift or for any other reason, please let me know. Your satisfaction is important to me, and I will respect your wishes
